Each site has a limit of 750 entries.
Since the first 34 entries competed in Boulder, CO in 1979, the National Homebrew Competition has grown to become the largest of its kind in the world. The goal is simple: to celebrate the spirit of homebrewers.
Each year some of the world’s most esteemed BJCP judges gather to analyze and evaluate thousands of entries at first-round sites throughout the US. Winning entries are given the chance to compete in the NHC Final Round, the championship event, where the best-of-the-best homemade beer, mead, and cider compete for the country’s top honors.

The 2026 National Homebrew Competition consists of nine (9) First Round competition sites.
The top 3 winners in each Award Category from each location are eligible to compete in the Final Round Competition in June.
Additional club and individual awards are also announced at the Final Awards Ceremony during the National Homebrew Convention (Homebrew Con).
